Pterostilbene can reduce protein accumulation, which is one of the drivers of aging. Pterostilbene activates AMPK, an important enzyme that can protect cells against aging. Pterostilbene increases the production of powerful antioxidant enzymes, protecting the cells against oxidative damage.

It belongs to the group of phytoalexins, agents produced by plants to fight infections.
